Leslie A. Lakie Scholarship in Civil Engineering
GENERAL INFORMATION: Named endowments may be established in the Lamar University Foundation, Inc. with minimum contributions of $10,000. All principal (corpus) of said endowment will be maintained intact in perpetuity and only earnings from the principal (corpus), in compliance with the Foundation's Adopted Spending Policy, will be budgeted and expended as directed by the donor(s) in paragraphs II through X. Unless otherwise specified by the donor(s), all endowment resources will be pooled and invested in accordance with the Foundation's adopted Investment Policy. Each endowed account shall receive its proportional share of total portfolio earnings, calculated on a monthly basis. Only earnings actually budgeted may be expended during any fiscal year. BACKGROUND: The endowment for this scholarship is being funded by Leslie Alexander Lakie, class of 1968, and his wife, Margaret Lumpkin Lakie, class of 1970 and 1976. Their donation will be matched by Texaco Foundation. Mr. Lakie has been a practicing civil engineer for Texaco for 30 years. Knowing the value of higher education, Mr. and Mrs. Lakie have chosen to establish this endowed scholarship at Lamar University as a way of giving back to their commujnity and to their university. ELECTION OF RECIPIENTS: Recipients will be selected by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Civil Engineering Department. SELECTION CRITERIA: (1) Major/Degree - The recipient must be pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering. (2) Overall GPA - Minimum overall GPA of 2.6. (3) Class Level - Open to sophomore, junior, and senior level students. (4) Class Load Requirements - Preference is to be given to full-time students; however, part-time students may be considered. (5) Other - Financial need may be considered, but it is not to be the determining factor. |
